Welcome to The Student Success Center!

The Student Success Center offers free academic support, such as tutoring and study skills seminars to undergraduate students at Virginia Tech. We also have programs and activities for students who are already succeeding academically, and simply want to enrich their educational experiences at Virginia Tech.

Our main office is located on the first floor of Femoyer Hall where we also have a classroom, conference room, tutoring space and staff offices. Additional staff offices are located on other floors in Femoyer.  Please check at our main desk in 110 if you have any questions.

Peer academic mentors are available to help you develop effective time management and study skills to be successful at Virginia Tech. Learn strategies for getting organized, using your time more efficiently, taking better in-class notes, developing a study plan for your next test/exam, and more.

U-TURN

Are you unsatisfied with how your semester is going academically? Are you looking for a way to turn things around in the second half of the semester? If so, you should sign up for U-Turn!

U-Turn, offered by The Student Success Center, is a four-week program aimed at helping students who are not satisfied with how their semester is going academically. The following topics will be included: effective reading and study skills, time management, test preparation and test-taking skills, stress management and test anxiety, staying motivated and overcoming procrastination.

The program runs for 4 full weeks of classes (1 session per week). Participants are required to attend and will benefit most by attending ALL four sessions! It is not too late to get the grades that you want/need!

Group 1: Mondays from 6:00-7:00pm on October 13, 20, 27 and November 3 in 120 Williams Hall

Group 2: Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30pm on October 14, 21, 28 and November 4 in 304 McBryde Hall

 

Seminar Series on Academic Success


• These free series is comprised of one-hour seminars on a variety of topics related to academic success. The program is designed to provide students with a low pain, big gain opportunity to learn strategies to develop the academic skills and personal attributes needed to be successful at the college level. The seminar environment encourages students to interact and ask questions related to their individual concerns about the specific topics.

Reading Assessment and Assistance


• Testing and assessment of reading skills are offered both individually and as part of various courses and programs. Information and workshops are available to help students improve reading skills and learn strategies for improving reading effectiveness.
