The Student Success Center offers free academic support, such as tutoring and study skills seminars to undergraduate students at Virginia Tech. We also have programs and activities for students who are already succeeding academically, and simply want to enrich their educational experiences at Virginia Tech.
Our main office is located on the first floor of Femoyer Hall where we also have a classroom, conference room, tutoring space and staff offices. Additional staff offices are located on other floors in Femoyer. Please check at our main desk in 110 if you have any questions.
Tutors Needed for 2014-2015
The Student Success Center (SSC) is seeking qualified students for tutoring positions for the 2014-2015 academic year. The SSC Tutoring Program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association and provides individual and group tutoring for a variety of 1000 and 2000 level courses and a limited number of upper level courses. Tutors are principally needed in the following areas: math, chemistry, BIT, physics, accounting and select engineering courses.
Being an SSC tutor is an excellent way to supplement your income and many tutors find helping their peers to be successful in their courses to be very rewarding. Tutoring also provides an opportunity for you to utilize your academic expertise, develop effective communication skills and work in a friendly environment. New tutors start at $8.50 per hour and receive pay increases based on certification status and experience.
Tutor qualifications include the following: 1) Full-time Virginia Tech student; 2) Cumulative GPA of 3.2 +; 3) At least sophomore status by Fall, 2014.

Interested in Being a Student Success Mentor?
Interested rising sophomores, juniors and/or seniors are encouraged to apply for a mentoring position as part of the new Student Success Mentoring Program, formerly the Student Success Grants Program (SSGP). Up to 15 students will be selected to serve as peer mentors and representatives for The Student Success Center on campus during the 2014-2015 academic year.

...continuing students, providing assistance with time management and study skills development to help students improve their academic performance at Virginia Tech.

Seminar Series on Academic Success
The Student Success Center offers a series of weekly, one hour seminars on a variety of topics related to academic success. The program is designed to provide students with a low pain, big gain opportunity to learn strategies to develop the academic skills and personal attributes needed to be successful at the college level. In addition to providing information on a select topic, the seminar atmosphere offers students the opportunity to interact and ask questions related to their individual concerns about the subject. Most seminar topics are offered two times a week for a two week period, allowing students different times to attend.
All seminars are free! No pre-registration is necessary, however space is limited so students should plan to arrive early.
